I have a 10 gallon tank. How long should the hot water last when taking a shower? I personally can only rinse, wash and start rinsing before it is cold again. I would say the hot water lasts about 2 mins max. Is that normal?

I would say something is certainly wrong. We just finished a 5 week trip with our 13 year old grandson. We both took long showers and our grandson took really looong showers and we never once ran out of hot water. We also have a 10 gallon water heater.

Move to Phoenix, this time of year I don't even turn on my water heater either tap is hot!
Just a few thought you might try and check. How much water is really in the tank and how much sediment is in there? What is the temperature setting on the tank? Do you have the little shut off valve on the shower head or do you just let it run? Did it just start doing this and it worked correctly before and how log ago did it start.

I get about 6 minutes running strait hot water out of my 6 gallong Atwood through the shower. This ends up being plenty for me as once you mix in some cold water, it last quite abit longer. Plus I rinse, turn the water off, soap up, rinse again. I have yet to run out of hot water doing this. Since I basically get 1 gallon/ minute, I would expect you to get no less than 10 minutes.

Hahaha...right now we are in Vegas and yes the tap is VERY hot during the day but at night when we go to shower....
I'm so new to this so I'll figure out how much water/sediment is in there. Last time I looked at my tank when setting the MH up, I couldn't tell from there. Didn't even see a temperature gauge but then again I wasn't looking for it at that time. No shut off valve at the shower. I guess we could completely shut it off while soaping up. This is the first time to use the MH so it's been normal for us.

My wife and I take showers with the water running constantly while on FHU. We've yet to run out of hot water. Have you double checked your winterizing valves to insure they are completely turned to the correct positions? If the bypass valve is partially open, the result is your complaint. How about an outside shower? same there. The snap-in connection prevents water leakage, but, if the valves are open hot and cold will re-circulate.

Just wanted to give an update. We are now in OR and the first night we didn't have any hot water. So the 2 mins we got in NV was just because the water was hot. LOL
I played around some more and I didn't have all of the valves open. Last night the shower stayed hot forever...longer than I needed.
I am SO glad this is fixed. Thanks for all of your help.
