I have a 6 gal Atwood gas electric water heater that is really giveing me fits. The pilot will light, although the flame is very small it stays lite. When i turn the control to on the burner lights and burns with a normal flame for 1-2 minutes by my watch and then just goes out. Just like i turned it off. The control is new, i just purchased it today. Before new control the pilot would light but the burner would not. Thanks for any help that you can give. (sorry for the long post.)

Maybe the gas pressure at the regulator is low? Does the gas range and the gas furnace light up and run normally? If they're OK and only the water heater is going out, check for a pinched or blocked gas line, maybe a rubber line under a slide room.

Good Luck.

CLose gas vavles on tank(s) and reopen slowly. REtry operation of water heater. If it does not change then you need to check the working gas pressure of the gas regulator. THis will require a monometer. If you cannot adjust the regulator to work at 10.5 to 11" water column you should replace the regulator.
