How long does your RV dryer take to dry

My wife is complaining that our (electric) dryer takes forever to dry a load of wash. It has always taken a very long time, so nothing new. I've checked the vent just to make sure it wasn't clogged. She said it takes like two hours to dry a load, although I doubt she's timed it.

Is it normal for an RV dryer to take this long? I realize it's not the same as a residential dryer.

*Most* of the W/D setups in coaches are the stacked apartment-size applicances with the drying running on a 20 amp, 120 volt circuit. You can't make as much heat as you can with a 30 amp, 240 circuit so drying will take at least 2x as long.

Obviously, heavy cottons (towels, blue jeans, blankets, etc) will absorb more water and take longer to dry and items with more synthetic content will take less time. An additional spin cycle (or faster spin, if available) in the washing machine may help for those heavy items or just wait til you're in a location with full residential laundry.

That all said, there are regular residential washers and dryers in top end DP coaches that have big generators.

There are threads on these forums about mobile laundry - yes, no, doesn't matter... and many responders indicated they dry clothes while they are out doing other things and that they don't wait until all their textiles need cleaning before doing laundry (a load a day, etc).

Hope this helps.

Have you checked for good air flow at the dryer vent when the dryer is running? An obstruction may be present further up the vent line from where you can see.

If it is taking longer than it used to, then I would also think air blockage. If it has always, since new, taken 2 hours then perhaps you have another issue. Call the manufacturer asking about possible causes.

A lot depends on how large of a load and the types of material. The heavier the load the longer it will take to dry. Ours takes from 45 minutes to 1-1/2 hours depending on the load.

I checked the vent and I did not see or feel any obstruction as far as I could see or feel.

Another possible factor, I grew up in NYC where patience is short, my wife was not raised there, but she has the patience of a typical New Yorker on their way to work.

Splendide combo washer/dryers have a larger washer capacity than dryer capacity. Try smaller loads. Works for us.

It's a Splendide, but they're not a combo

When we purchased our first coach we thought the dryer took unusually long to dry, on our second coach, again with splendid stackables, the dryer seemed to take longer than we thought it should. We started running a 30 point residential dehumidifier and keeping the coach inside humidity to 50 percent. Shortly after we started running the dehumidifier we noticed drying time to be substantially less, now we notice that when we don't run it it takes longer to dry. After thinking about it it makes sense, when you bring wet air into the dryer you need to dry the air before it can dry the cloths.

Two types of Splendide combo washer/dryers. One type is vented to the outside, the other does not. Have had both, vented one dried a lot faster, [still not very fast] than the non-vented one.
