HWH hydraulic slide ram or equalization valve?
How do you figure out if a slide ram or the equalization valve for the two rams of a slide-out is bad? One ram of the slide is working but not the other. There are no obvious leaks, just some sweating, mostly at the equalization valve.

Sweating? The equalization valve doesn't sweat does it? It leaks when bad though.

It's hard to tell. I'd say the fittings were sweating but there may have been new oil running down a side panel.

You may want to read this thread where I had a leaking hose on my Allure/Veranda. Maybe it will help.

I'll clean up the area to see if there is a leak. Also, I wonder if there's a way to bench test the balancing valve.

That's a good question for HWH in Moscow, IA. They're a little slow at returning tech calls but they will, and they're very knowledgeable.

Haha, yeah, been waiting about 4 weeks now for the callback. I did find out that the piston shaft moves though.

It looks like the OD is 5/16ths with it's protective cover, and is braided. There were no signs of abrasion, pulling, or pressure on the lines, but I'm no expert. (the pics are upsidedown )

Well, hopefully you found the problem - or made one . Anyway, the hose is 1/4" ID. There is a number/tag on the hose that identifies it and shows you the length of the hose in inches. You'll need that number for HWH to make a replacement. If it just runs up to the slide above it then the hose could be mercifully short and relatively easy to replace. If it about 485" like mine then you are in for a lot of work!! HWH can make a replacement and get it to you in about a week or so. The link I gave you earlier is the method I chose to fix my hose. Oh, and the woven inner reinforcement is commonly used in thermoplastic hydraulic hoses.

Good news: I picked up fittings from a local shop.
Bad news: ID is 3/16", not 1/4". I should have known because you were referring to the main line from the pump. The leak I have is the smaller line to the ram. Back to the shop to see if they have fittings for 3/16 ID.

Well, shoot! Bummer. but glad you have someone with local parts. Is there a label on the hose? That's the most trustworthy information (oh, and a tape measure.) Good luck!!
Geese, and I had a tough time finding 1/4" parts - 3/16" - Yikes!

Actually, the ID is 1/8". After many calls in the US and Canada, I'm coming up blank. The good news is, after close inspection I realize the lines from the sync valve to the rams should be easy to replace. Eric Olstrom says he uses Parker instead of HWH when he has to replace hydraulic lines. The pic is where the lines enter from where the sync valve is.

hwh uses parker hose, 1/8 inch diameter for rooms. they are changing all the new coaches to 3/16 so one size fits most applications. hwh has used parker since about 2002. the parts are also available at grainger. there are also parker stores in some cities. ok city for one.
the way you check the sync cylinder is to swap the two room hoses and run the room out. if the problem changes ends, its the sync cylinder. if it stays on the same end, its the room cylinder.

I'm in the middle of nowhere Sask, so I had a local shop make up new 1/4 ID lines. Now Ill get to check if it was a line leak, sync valve, or ram causing the problem.
