How is the Samsung holding up after a year? Any suggestions, comments on doing it again?

We installed our Samsung 197 in the winter of 2010. Absolutely no problems and would do it again. It's silent, well lit inside including freezer adn plenty of ice.

When it comes to getting it in and out.

Check your emergency escape windows.. Some of them can be opened and re-closed and some of them are LARGER than the door, Others.. Well, the key word in that was SOME.

I had a a gas/electric refrigerator in my 5th wheel. When I bought my used M/H it had been converted to a residential type refrigerator. Having used both I would not want to go back to the non residential refrigerator again. Other posters have listed the reasons. Basically it just works better and has more room. I have a frigidaire plain jane upper freezer two door model. I believe I have a modified sine wave inverter. I have owned my unit for a year and use it pretty heavily although I do not full time we use ours several times a month. The refrigerator works fine on the inverter. I am not sure that a modified sine wave would be a problem for an electric motor so I am not sure that you need to worry about whether or not your refrigerator would run on modified sine wave. Mine does and I do not know how long it did before I got it.

I have 4 6v batteries coach batteries. On my allegro bus the engine alternator recharges the coach batteries as I drive so I do not have to worry about running my generator driving down the road.

I am having my Samsung installed TODAY!

With all the doors off the Samsung and removing the stop arm on the MH, they were able to remove the Norcold (kick it to the curb!) through the door and bring in the Samsung. As I type, the Samsung is being fitted into the new opening.

Happy With The Absorption Unit

I must be the only one out here that really loves the Norcold unit in my 07 Knight! It works great, produces ice cubes reliably, and shifts between 120v and propane when it is supposed to, and for us, that is the difference. Can't imagine boondocking with a house fridge - sounds like more hours on the generator than I want to do. And when we drive, we drive. Not unusual for 10 or 12 hour days with the Allison in "D". When I do stop, I need ice for my Captain & Coke! I guess it is all in what works for you.

Us too. Long story short... It was supposed to be a Samsung RF197, what Lowes delivered was a RF217. They look identical but the 217 is larger. We could not get it through the door but it did go in through right slide out window by not much. See here http://www.irv2.com/forums/f54/new-f...dow-93522.html So measure carefully like I did and make sure you get the model you ordered.

Exactly ... different strokes for different folks. If you have a properly (safe) working LP/AC unit there is not much reason to switch. However, once it's getting old and cranky, there are some valid reasons to go one way or the other.

micki49.....You should be able to get it in through the front door on your coach. I just installed a Samsung RF197 in mine. Here's a link to my install: http://www.irv2.com/forums/f115/sams...er-159692.html

I had to remove the door stop at the top of the entry door so that the door would swing all the way open. I have a manual front door awning and the forward arm blocked the door from swinging all the way open. I removed the one arm and taped the door to the mirror.

With the door wide open, you should have about 26". The Norcold and Samsung are both 24" wide with the doors and hinges off. The passenger front seat also needs to be moved. This sounds like a lot, but I had the seat out, door open, awning arm off and Norcold doors removed in about 90 minutes. The Norcold can be lifted out by two people, but three works better.

We had limited height space on our install and I procrastinated for a year on installing the Samsung. I'm sooooo happy with the new refer. You can stand there with the door open, look inside for a few minutes, feel the cold air blowing out and know that it won't take 1-2 hours for the refer to get cold again.

I added a second inverter to my refer. I bought a Magnum 600 watt MSW inverter and mounted it above the main inverter. I didn't want to run around and turn things on and off when driving because the main inverter was running. The 600 watt is sufficient for the Samsung and works great.

Micki49 (or anyone else reading this) - make sure you plug in your residential fridge BEFORE putting it in the RV to make sure it works. Who would've thought our new fridge was defective from the factory. It never occurred to us to plug it in first. Lots of hassle now to take it out and bring in another one. It would've been so simple.....
