Inverter has flatlined

Xantrex Pro XM 1000

This is a photo of the inverter panel. Not only is there no battery strength reading, there's not even an error code. Checked breaker on side of unit, it is not popped. Tried to "test" the ground fault 110 outlet on the unit, wouldn't pop.

I'm guessing it has deceased and needs replacement. Any other thoughts?Click image for larger version

Should be a 12 volt circuit breaker in the supply cable ; check that you have 12 volts to the inverter , if no volts find the C/B , mine is next to the coach battery disconnect relay .
My 600W the GFI has to be pushed with the tip of a screw driver to test .

Red light on panel indicates fault mode. See page 5.2 of manual.
https://forestriverinc.com/files/Com...;s%20Guide.pdf

Fault mode with no fault code is not covered in the manual see https://xantrex.com/support/get-customer-support/

There should be a 15 amp circuit breaker on the right side of the main unit. GFI trips for leakage current. Circuit breaker trips due to overload.

GFI can only be tested or reset if there is 120 volts supplied to the device. A tripped circuit breaker will disconnect the 120 volts to the GFI.

The Xantrex Pro XM has two basic modes of operation. One is to pass through 120 volt shore power. The other is to invert 12 volt battery power. Both modes provide 120 volt output.

Does the Xantrex provide 120 volt output in one of the two modes?

Even if you can fix it, it has seen better days. In its day it was a high quality inverter. Today, you can do much better. Check out replacement pure sine wave inverters with 120 volt pass through. Even the manual warns it can damage some 120 volt appliances.

I agree. Even if that was working in original condition, I would be replacing it. 1000 watts barely powers your TVs and charges phones.

If you want a drop in replacement $159 and your done.

$320 and youi have something worthwhile.

Bad advice.

The first on has no pass thru capabilities, which the Xantrex does.

The second one may not either, but even if it does, it still needs the battery supply cables upgraded to work properly.

Check and see if there are an internal fuse in the unit. Could be the internal fuse is blown.

Thanks for the help offered.

As I said, the 15 amp breaker on the side of the unit is not tripped. In looking at the installation instructions though seems there should be another fuse somewhere between the batteries and the inverter as well as a cut off switch. Unfortunately the rig is stored 30 minutes away and it'll be a couple days before I can get back over there and look. Assuming they are there I suspect they'd be in the battery compartment, just behind the compartment with the inverter, charger, transfer switch and shore cord.

I do need to retain the pass through feature as this is installed in the basement rather than in a cabinet next to the TV. I think that and the blue ray may be the only things powered by the inverter?

I doubt a higher watt rating would be of much use. Besides the mentioned possible issue with infrastructure capacity, there's only two house batteries, I suspect trying to pull any more power would deplete those almost instantly.

Xantrex technical support can easily walk you through simple diagnostic tests to identify the problem and, if needed, give you a definitive recommendation that you need to replace the unit. I have called Magnum on my inverters for technical support and I am sure Xantrex is just as willing to help resolve your issue.
