I decided to service my generator. I am not a newbie around motors so I figured how hard could it be to change the filters. The oil was a snap and the fuel not too bad but the air filter was a bear. Looking through the side cover I could barely see the air cleaner filter housing. How in the world does it come apart or snap together. It is buried in the box housing of my Onan 10K genset.
I finally took the top cover off which is really not easy due to the bolts on the rear of the top cover.

All together it took me over an hour to remove the top cover and replace the air filter then another half hour buttoning it back up. Is there an easier method of getting to the air cleaner through the side cover?? Surely there must be an easier method to change the air filter.

How about it guys, How do you do it??

Through the side maintenance panel.

It's a little tight, but doable.

Remove the bolts holding the coolant expansion tank & then pull it aside for access to the air filter.

Now you mention it, I probably did that as well.

I've had that leaky POS out several times, and now it's gone!

Yes, according to Onan it is supposed to be difficult.

I did not find it necessary to loosen the air filter housing. This is supposed to be the same for the 10 ad 12.5KW. There is a better video somewhere, but i couldn't find it.
