Is this tape defective?

I just got a roll of PTFE tape for LPG lines to replace the roll I have which is getting low. The stuff I had is an even dark yellow color whereas the new stuff is much lighter, closer to white and is streaked with yellow (see photo). That doesn't seem right. Is the new stuff defective?

If you mean to say there are defective goods on Amazon I would agree, however, defective goods can be found everywhere and I was asking specifically about the tape in the photo. Do you know enough about PTFE tape for LPG to tell by the photo if what I got is likely defective or not? I do not. Perhaps good tape is often streaky. I don't know. Do you? If you have knowledge on this subject I would appreciate your opinion. Otherwise we're just speculating which I don't think would be best thing to do here.

you have doubts about it & it isn't worth much. Throw it away & replace it.

Thanks, OB.

I know what this tape sells for at the store, but the real cost for me to get there and back is easily triple that, not to mention the time it takes to get there (45 minutes in this case and I have other things I need to be doing with my time), and the risks for me in doing so. Cost may be the most immediately visible factor in making a purchase but sometimes it's not the only one.

A simple 'no hardware stores close by' would have sufficed.

Such drama..........

Perhaps shooting an inquiry to the manufacturer would be prudent.

I just picked up some grey tape at Lowes that says it works for propane.

The yellow color is just a pigment to make it yellow. It's the density of the tape that makes it suitable for gas lines.

That's a great suggestion and something I do so often. For some reason I didn't think to try that in this case. I have reached out to the mfr. and will report back should they reply.

No drama here OB. What I said was only meant as an explanation. Thats all.
Don't understand your reference hardware store hours in this context. No matter. You've been über helpful and always appreciated.
