KDFJ 7.5KW Onan dies after a few minutes.

Posting for a friend….

Full tank of fuel and about 6 hours on a new fuel filter on the genny.

He says it runs for about 5-7 minutes then starts sputtering and blows white smoke then black smoke and then dies. He is going to change the fuel filter. Any other suggestions?

So we checked the oil and it was down about a half a quart. total capacity is 4 quarts. Hard to believe that it would shut the engine down because of low oil l. that just doesn’t seem to be that a half a quart would be significant enough to shut an engine down. It’s been running fine now off and on for the last couple hours.

Fuel pump/ fuel line leak caused that condition on my 8kw generator.

I replaced both. Pump was $50 on Ebay.

Yep, ran for another 8 hours then sputtered and died. I’m guessing fuel pump. Stay tuned!
