I just found a site advertising refurbished KingDome systems. Does this sound like a safe and good investment, or should I stick with NEW (of any brand)? What is there to go wrong with them, and why would there be enough bad ones to make a market off refrubished ones?

The KingDome is a nice dome, I sure like mine. There can't be too much to go wrong with them so I can't imagine where they are finding them to refurb. Most of the "brains" are in remote modules so a swap out of them would repair a system. I'd check with King Controls and ask them their opinion on this. They may be warranty returns that the factory refurbed and sold off cheap to a broker. If they feel that these are up to snuff, I'd consider them.

King Controls forwarded my query to Kingdom2.com who handles exclusive sales of factory refurbished KingDomes. Pete Shuster, owner, answered directly to me stating he sells about 20/month, or about 600 since beginning in 1999, a relatively small percent of King Control's products. Prior to hearing from Pete, I had sent an inquiry directly to kingdom2 with 6-7 questions regarding quality, warranty, etc. I will post the results when I receive it.
