Kwikee step motor operates but steps don't move when connected

I confess to not viewing every step video on YouTube, and posts here, but thought I might get a better response for my specific problem:

Last year the steps were clacking at extension & retraction so I installed the 3 little internal bumper pieces and this solved the problem. Upon trial this spring, the motor would sound to run correctly when the door was opened & closed but no step movement.

1. Step motor runs, thereby wiring seems correct
2. Door magnet switch is working. Motor runs & stops when door is opened & closed.
3. Internal plastic gears appear OK
4. The adjustable step leg "stops" appear correct
5. Step joints are clear with no binding
6. Motor runs & stops and starts correctly & moves lever when this is not connected to steps
7. Motor still runs & stops and starts correctly when step lever is connected but will not move steps
8. This indicates the motor gear isn't engaging the big gear tooth segment but this appears in contact when I reassemble things

The solution may be staring me in the face, but I'm not recognizing it. I will disassemble & reassemble tomorrow but in the meantime Any suggestions or similar experiences?

Have you checked that the plastic gear cog isn't internally stripped? ... the motor turns but where it connects to the cog is stripped/rounded?

Good luck
