After my last trip I noticed a corner of my steps was lower and somewhat giving as I stepped down on it. After some contortions and mirrors under the rig, I found the rear outer corner on the support bracket was cracked and the bolt was coming through. It appears that the steps are held in place with four corner bolts, of which this is one. It looks like I need to remove these four bolts to lower the steps and somehow either weld the crack or drill a new hole for that bolt. The inside bolt I tried to loosen seemed to just turn, but not release.

Anyone know how these bolts are secured and if I am approaching the problem correctly?

I know, a simple approach would be one of those screw jack devices placed under the step...and that might be my interim solution. A second solution might be to lose some weight, but that's a longer term problem.

I had the same problem on my 1999 Brave. You will have to peel back the inside step covering (mine was rubber) and then cut in to get access to the broken bolt. If the bolt is in good shape you can skip that step and just pound the steel back in to place and then weld the crack. Then cut a sheet of 16 ga sheet metal the slightly larger then the step mounting area, drill out for the four mounting bolts, push on over bolts and weld in place.

Since the bolt turns in place you will probably have to cut thru from above unless you can tack weld it to keep it from turning.
