Kwikee Steps

Having problems with my steps, was working inside the RV with the steps out
yesterday and heard the step motor powering on and off. The step was partially closing and opening back forth so I looked under the step couldn't see anything loose but noticed that the motor was red hot to the touch.

I now have the power disconnected. Can anyone tell me if I pull the motor assembly out can the steps be pulled in and out manually until I can get new parts or get the problem figured out?

Any input would be greatly appreciated

If you pull the motor assembly, the steps will have to be held up somehow.

With the motor removed, the step should move freely in and out by hand. You will need to secure the steps if you plan to travel. This is assuming your step is like mine.

I’ve replaced just about everything on my steps, other than the steps themselves. I’ve not experienced a red hot step motor though.

My suggestion is disconnect power to the motor, after you’ve closed the step. The motor is working per your description. Removing it may not make sense. It may be your module is malfunctioning and sending too much current to the motor. Check voltage coming out of the module. I’ve replaced my module and it’s easy to do, but a bit costly.

Be careful under the coach. Make sure to support it in the event it inadvertently comes down, while your under there. Also make sure you keep all body parts away from the steps when they are moving.

This thread may be helpful. There are plenty of threads on this topic. Do a search.
