Leveling Jack Maintenence ?

I thought I would pose the question of Leveling Jack maintenance here as it pertains to both class "A" and "C" and maybe even to some bigger "B's".

Leveling jacks are nothing but hydraulic cylinders with a pad attached.

So, my question is when they are "down" do you lube the stem, and if so how often and with what ?

AND, do you change the hydraulic fluid, and if so how often and with what ?

Let the games begin...........

According the the HWH website, HWH straight acting leveling jacks generally require no maintenance except for a periodic visual inspection and checking the hydraulic fluid level occasionally. Kick down jacks require inspection of the roller bearing and occasional lubrication if it seems "sticky" or frozen.

I have no idea about any other brand of jacks.

My Equalizers say to wipe down with WD40 during extended periods of extended Jack's down. Just wipe off, not coat.

Lippert, for the LCI system I have, says as long as the fluid is clear and red, don't change it, but then, it says to change the fluid in the reservoir every 5 years at a minimum. As for protecting the jacks; If jacks are extended for long periods of time, it is recommended to spray exposed jack rods with a dry silicone lubricant every three months for protection. If the coach is located in a salty environment, it is recommended to spray the rods every four to six weeks

Knowing your brand and following the manufacturers instructions is key.

Depending on conditions , if mine are down more than a week they get the cleaning.

I usually spray with WD40 at least once a year.

I used to wipe with transmission fluid but have gone back to the WD40.

HWH jack shafts are stainless steel = SST requires no maintenance other than wiping off grit and grime after being extended long-term to prolong the seals.

Well, after reading all the reply's, I went out to the barn last night and sprayed mine down with WD-40. She's going to be laid up till at lease March (in door storage but humid).
I thank you all for your input...........
