Cool Light for Steps HR Vacationer

Hi! I have a 97 HR Vacationer. Located next to the door frame on the inside of the rig, there's a switch labeled Step. It doesn't turn lights on for the steps. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot? Under that fixture is one labeled Storage Light and it does work. Not sure how to fix. Thanks!

the 'step' switch should disable the circuit that senses when the main door closes so the steps remain extended. this is handy when parked in camp.

I have a Vacationer and the switch does not control a light, it controls the status of the step itself. When on: the step will retract even when the engine is not running. Some people use it in this position so it makes it harder for a possible intruder to get in the coach (at night). I use it in this position while in my shed since the steps interfere with getting to the back of the shed.
In the off position, the step will remain extended when you close the door unless the engine is running (my preferred position). In any case, it does not matter which position the switch is in when the engine is running and you shut the door. It will always retract the steps.
There is a under step light but it only goes on while the step is retracting/extending and then turns off. I know of no way it can be turned on by itself.

HTH, Steve

That's it! I'm not sure why I thought the switch controlled a light, but thanks for helping me figure it out.

Thank you for responding to my silly question. That's what the switch does - I sent my hubs to check it out.

The bad question is one that is unasked. Don't leave yourself in the dark. That's what this forum is for.
