Lithium change

My coach has a lambert le-415 I am replacing the house battery’s with lithium and removing the isolater therefore the alternator will not charge the house battery’s when driving I am fine with that.

My question is can I keep the lambert le-415 in place my chassis battery’s are AGM.

I have a felling that the lambert le-415 may be bad anyway the light is green a lot even when the chassis battery’s are full charged.

Also even plugged in my chassis battery was going dead with the lambert le-415 light on.

BTW these are new chassis batteries and have been fully tested.

If the lambert le-415 is working what voltage should the chassis post have?

I am installing a new inverter/charger that can be configured for lithium.

In-Vehicle Testing
Tools needed: (a) digital voltmeter, (b) 12V. test lamp.
1.Disconnect the coach from shore power, and kill the engine.
2.Disconnect the wire from the Chassis battery terminal of the LE-415.
3.Connect a 12V. test lamp between the Chassis battery terminal of the LE-415 and chassis ground.
4.Connect a digital voltmeter between the Coach battery terminal of the LE-415 and the Negative terminal of the LE-415.
5.Observe the green LED. If it is OFF, go to step #7.
6.If the green LED is ON, turn on some interior lights to drain the Coach battery until the green LED goes OFF.
7.Connect the coach to shore power and read the digital voltmeter. If it reads 13.5 volts or higher, the green LED should be ON. If it is not ON, the LE-415 should be replaced.
8.If the digital voltmeter reads less than 13.5 volts, start the engine and run it for a few seconds. The charging current from the engine's generator will raise the voltage above 13.5 volts and turn the Model LE-415 ON. If the digital voltmeter reads 13.5 volts or higher, the green LED should be ON. If it is not ON, the LE-415 should be replaced.
9.Whenever the green LED is ON, the 12 V. test lamp should light. If it doesn't, the LE-415 should be replaced

Your lambert le-415 is directional - from house battery to chassis battery and only works effectively when engine isn't running. When engine runs there is a separate relay to bridge the two batteries so both get charged. If your lambert le-415 is toast, you might want to replace it, a lot of choices out there though.

An echo charger doesn't consume much, the voltage onto the chassis battery is almost the same as the house battery's. Normally LA chassis battery can handle the voltage from lithium.

Ok so if the lambert still works as designed I can use it to keep the chassis battery’s charged after the conversion to lithium.

So does the lambert only pull power to the chassis battery’s when they are low or does it supply power all the time and how much. I wish I could find a manual for it.

You make it sound like anytime the house battery’s are charging the chassis will be also. Could this not cause an over charge state on the chassis battery’s?

If your lambert works, there is no reason to replace it.

Please be awere that lambert is an echo charger, it's current is limited. It keeps chassis battery float, but the chassis battery has to be (1) in working condition; (2) not to be too low like 12.2v or so; (3) and house battery has higher voltage than chassis battery's. Lambert will keeps charging until the chassis battery and house battery reach at almost the same voltage.

Remember your alternator's output voltage is about 13.6v, no harm to either batteries. Not sure you are using or going to use solar, if yes, I'd recommend you set the controller at 14.2v or less. When you stay in RV parks where you are on shore power for extended time, you may set your charger at 13.8v. After the charge sources (shore, genset, solar...) are off, lithium battery will settle at 13.3v. In all circumstances, your chassis battery is safe.

This sounds to me like the unit is faulty?
