Lost 50 amp service in coach.
We were camping and in the morning we used the microwave and thump we lost the electrical coming in. Well the inverter came on by itself and we had inverter power. The electrical panel says we have 120v on L1 0amps and 120v on L2 and 5amps. The campgrounds tested the electric post and it showed 242volts on both legs total. If I shut the inverter off I have nothing. Any clues to what it could be. Thanks for reading.

Check breakers.
Check power cable plugged in at both ends (if plugged at coach end)
Ensure all is dead or just some circuits and items. If some check GFCIs.

I am going to guess, the thump you heard was your transfer switch dropping out, what happens if you start the genset?

Without knowing anything about what we are guessing on here(nothing in/on your profile) it will be hard to help you. Nothing can happen if you start the genset other than maybe the contactor for the genset side of your transfer switch will pick up and you will at least have A/C in your Coach. I am thinking the contactor for the shore power side of your transfer switch dropped out for some reason. Un plug the shore power and start the genset.

Does you panel show the existing current on L1 and L2; or the last recorded current?? It could be coming from the inverter and not from the post.
Do you have a surge protector?? If it protects you, it then may need to be rebuilt and by-passed for now. What year and model motorhome do you have? I agree, you should try your genie. Can you take the cover off your transfer switch?? You may either have a bad transfer switch or some of the wires are loose. Turn off all the power, disconnect all the cords, and start over again. Tell us what you find.

Are you still camping?? Or, are you now at home? I would disconnect all the power, turn off the inverter, disconnect from the post, turn off the main circuit breaker, and then take the cover off the transfer switch. Check to make sure all the wires are tight (45 ft inches). If you have a meter plug in the post and confirm you are getting power through the cord into the transfer switch (input) and then check the power on the output of the transfer switch. My guess is you have loose connections, a bad transfer switch, (or perhaps a surge has disabled your transfer switch). Do you know the brand of your transfer switch. Another thing you can do is connect up with your dog bone to 30 Amp and see if it works. That will confirm you have a circuit problem in your transfer switch, if it works. Let us know.... I am on the road today so I cannot help until later.
