Normally, spray with WD40, then wipe down dry. Might attract some dust, I suspect.

My power gear manual says to spray wit silicon proto retraction, and lube the Zerks periodically. Has worked perfectly for 14 years.

Same here for the WD 40. Wipe them down before retracting every time. Worked on airplanes for many years and we wiped down the landing gear struts before every flight.

HWH recommends in their manual to spray the legs with WD40, then wipe it off before retracting. This cleans the legs instead of lubricating them. They make them and know what works best. Other manufacturers may have different recommendations.

Spray silicone the chrome each use, grease jerks at least every 30 retractions.

WD40 is a pretty good lube and an excellent solvent. The problem is that it tends to remain tacky, so any dust or grit encountered may well stick to it. Not cool.
Dry silicone spray is not a good solvent, but is a superior lubricant with good longevity because it dries in place. Dust and grit do not stick. However—- for this exact reason it can become a problem. It dries and forms a layer of lubricant. The next time you spray and wipe, you start to build up a second layer. Then a third,... fourth,... etc. After a while these layers of silicone can actually start to impede the jack shaft as it tries to retract through that snug seal into the cylinder.
Each time you service your jack shafts, wipe them clean with WD-40, then apply a fresh dose of silicone spray.

My actual cylinders seem to be incased in two outer
shells/tubes . I spray the tubes with WD-40 mega can, but I don't think there is a rubber wiper at all anywhere.
