Magic Chef Range Manufactured By Whirlpool
We have had the Winne for 7 months
Oven pilot had worked well, typically off thus lit pilot when oven used, last month flame seemed weak/fluttering a couple of times finely refusing to light. pilot lights waste gas so I turn it off.
Said to myself it must be thermocouple, jeez folks have crazy price spread low>high of $130 starting around $55
But, Holding a flame to thermocouple short period than rotating oven knob to >temperature full burner would light.
Conundrum ~ valve electro-magnet must be holding safety valve open yet pilot still not burning.
With entire valve system removed checking flow though valve.
applying a vacuum to valve pilot output port while depressing knob to pass gas to pilot, vacuum is maintained..
Notice what I'll assume is pilot flame height adjusting screw added 1/4 left turn..
reassembled valve rack and dang if the pilot lights maintaining flame..
Appears the adjustment screw had red thread locker, It's beyond me why the oven valve pilot light section would quit allowing gas to flow..
Tested once so far, seems to cycle as in the past..
Was a pain to put something in oven only to discover burner wouldn't cycle on as temp dropped while pilot wouldn't light..
Canceled thermocouple assembly I had on order maybe I'll kick myself for that.
Everything I've read indicated >25 millivolts output was nominal, figured replacement should be ordered after measuring 15 millivolts from original.
So far thermocouple output is holding safety valve open.
Time will tell if spare would be handy..
