Yes, they are a boat anchor. Get a Progressive Dynamics if you have RV/marine deep cycle batts, an Iota if you have golf-carts. Each has appropriate bulk charging volts for their particular battery type. And no, they don't tell you that - you have to read in the specs if you know what you're looking for.
End of story. And yes, the old parallax lump will cook your batts.
