Micro Air Easy Start
I just wanted to let everyone know that thanks to the recommendation of a member here, I ended up buying a Micro Air Easy Start for my AC unit.
Since I go boondocking often, I have to run off generator. Even though I have a 4000w generator which is plenty of power for the 15kBTU Dometic AC I have, it would frequently stall when the AC first came on, if the Progressive Industries EMS unit didn't kick out from low voltage.
I bought the unit several weeks ago, and finally got around to installing it this weekend. The install was pretty easy, just crimping on some quick disconnects and making a splice into one other wire. Roger at Micro Air even sent me a custom schematic for my unit so I knew I had it right. After the install, you have to make several cycles while plugged into shore power (30A in my case). After that, you can run it off generator or shore power. Just for kicks, I plugged my trailer into a 20A circuit at my friends house, and amazingly, the AC started! You can hear the difference when the compressor kicks in, because rather than a hard noise, you can hear it ramp up more slowly.
Anyone that is having issues like this, I would highly recommend this unit. They say you can even run your AC off a single Honda 2000 generator in economy mode. While I haven't tried that, it appears that it would.
