Micro convection Does it matter?
So, the Dometic Micro/convection oven is working but making noise and I feel it is about to go. Does anybody know if it matters which brand you replace it with or does it have to be designated for RV use? This is the under cabinet model.
Thanks

There are no specialized microwave/convection ovens for the RV industry. As long as the unit will fit in the provided space or you can modify the cabinet; you are good to go with any oven you desire.

Most microwave ovens in RVs are recessed into cabinetry; it is important to replace it with an oven that can be built in. Otherwise you may have vent openings that exhaust hot air from the rear or top of the unit. Many of the ovens used in RVs are so-called "over the range" models meant to hang above a stove. These are a few $$ more than the regular counter-top ones, but they are designed to be built in. Other microwave ovens may have "build in" kits available as accessories.

The vent on the new micro can be turned for venting out through roof or out a side wall vent location. Get the same size micro as the one you now have and everthing should line up.

Just a word of caution.....i replaced our Sharp micro/convec oven with a Maytag brand and it does not like inverted power.....makes a loud buzzing noise when we are boondocking, but not when we are on shore power or gen power....just my 2 cents!!!!

As a suggestion before buying a new one remove the old one and take good measurements - I bought one based on height and width of the cabinet prior to removing the old one and the new one ended up sticking out about two inches beyond the original one.

We had to replace our Microwave. Not as easy as one may think. there are a couple ways of mounting units. some hand off the back wall behind the unit and then fasten above into the cabinets. the Sharp model we had did not mount into the cabinets. It had dianagional bolts that ran at a 45% angle back to the wall. So, remove the old unit, see exactly how it was/is mounted. then go shopping for a unit that mounts in the same fashion. We had to rebuild part of our cabinet to mount the new unit because i didn't do that. dumb dumb dumb. good shopping

You didn't mention if your was the combo unit with bult-in fan/light. That also makes a difference.
As in logansrun's case, most microwaves require a pure-sine inverter. Many RV's only come with a modified sine. Thus the noise when on inverter.
