The main (and only) A/C unit in my trailer has become an ice maker. A few minutes ago, it blew out a dozen or so small shards of ice about 1/4" square by 1/8" thick. It made quite the racket from time to time for about 15 minutes prior. I wasn't sure what was making the noise or I would have shut it off sooner. But after it spewed ice chunks, I shut it down and opened up the doors/windows... figured I'd let it "thaw" out.

The unit is a Coleman Mach from what I saw inscribed on the shell on the roof. I was going to pull the cover and have a look, but I couldn't get some of the screws out and wasn't in the mood to climb back down for my cordless drill.

The A/C had been running non-stop since this morning around 10 AM (it happened around 5:15 PM), but that's typical. It normally runs from 10-11 AM until well into the evening, like 8-ish, before it shuts off. But this is the first it's "blown chunks."

I've been planning to add a second A/C, which I hope to do in the next week or so. I was going to wait a bit longer, but if I lose the main A/C, I want one to fall back on.

Anybody experience this problem? Is it a real problem or just something that happens?

Rob

How low do you have the temperature set in the RV. Also are you using high fan speed...low can cause freeze up problems in dry climates.

You also need to check that the air filter and evaporator coil are clean. Next check to see that the unit is not bypassing air internally with a baffle not installed correctly.

Good luck,

Ken

Ken is RIGHT!

The manuafactures "TECHS" suggest to only run on HIGH speed. They dont even know why there is a low, they say it causes more problems then its worth.

And again, make sure the air filters are clean. In some climates I have had to clean them often every couple days. It is good to have a spare pair that you can always keep clean.

I though freeze up was a wet humid climate problem.
