No 12v wire to hot water heater

I have a late 80s RV and needed to replace the hot water heater. Ordered the new one, pulled out the old and there are no wires ran to the location as the old heaterís pilot light was manually lit.

My question is how can I go about running wire to the new heater (already installed so theirs no going back).

I can post pictures of my breakers and 12v fuse box if needed. I am a pretty confident DIY-er but be honest if this should be forwarded to a professional.

Thanks!

Welcome to iRV2

Did the new heater come with install instructions? For wiring ?

Can you post the model number ?

This can be done , just have to figure out how.

Brand & Model of New Water Heater

Gas Only.....
12VDC POS & 12VDC NEG
POS should be from FUSED Source using 5A Fuse
NEG should be from battery for good ground source

Suburban
On/Off Switch
POS to switch...fused source
POS from Switch to OEM RED
NEG from battery (Green)
DC POS from circuit board to switch Fault Light....(Blue)
**DC Junction Box on side of WH Tank looking from backside

Dometic
On/Off Switch
POS to switch...fused source
POS from switch to OEM ORANGE wire
NEG from battery (Green)
DC POS from circuit board to switch Fault Light....(Blue)
*No junction box just open wiring

So .....
You have to Run 12VDC POS wire from FUSED source to Switch
You have to Run 12VDC NEG wire from Battery to Switch
You have to run 12VDC POS from switch to WH OEM Wiring
You have to run 12VDC NEG from switch to WH OEM Wiring
You have to run 12VDC POS from OEM Wiring to switch for FAULT Light

I think the negative just grounds the whole unit. Don't think it can go to the switch.
