Norcold fridge

Hi everyone, we bought our first motorhome. Its a 87 ford 27'. Our fridge is a norcold electric/gas. Electric works great (actually froze our food lol) but with propane only the freezer works. Anyone have some ideas or could point me to some troubleshooting links I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks, Walter

You didn't say what model of gas/electric Norcold you have. I suggest going outside, take the louvered hatch off the refrigerator access and try to see the flame while on gas. The flame should be mostly blue, with only small amounts of yellow. Also check that the flue the flame goes up is clear of any blockage. Usually you get more cold from the gas than the electric, the electric element is pretty small compared to the gas flame's BTU.

Hello Walter. We are glad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. I am sure you will enjoy our website and forums. Good luck, stay safe and keep us posted. More than likely the burner, flue, and gas valve orifice will need to be cleaned and gas pressure checked, to get the ref. to work properly on gas mode. Remember to always have the coach level when operating the refrigerator.

It is most likely a dirty burner tube. Take the burner tube out and blow it out with canned air. Then blow canned air up the flue. Probably a lot of rust and dirt will come out. Do it a couple of times until nothing comes out. It would probably be good to replace the burner tube, not very expensive.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to clean out the burner etc as soon as it stops raining. I found this video on YouTube. I think I found the problem just looking at mine lol

Take the burner tube off, remove the orifice, soak it in alcohol for a couple of hours, then blow it out with high-pressure air. You will be amazed at the crud that comes out of there!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Propane or electric the coolling system is identical

I would check the flu for nesting activity, Both top and bottom. Sounds like you are getting some flu related issues.
