Norcold refrigerator fire - lost everything

OMG this is the worst I seen and we are so glad you and your family were not injured. What year was the MH and what model was the Norcold? There are so many old Norcold’s out there in so many used MH especially the old nice Monaco’s for sale. I believe there will be many more fires coming. The causes that lead up to these fires is accumulative with these units. When my 1200 started having diminished performance I had enough it consumed our travel experience and I pulled it and replaced with a res unit. Many have collected money from the settlement I’m sure and probably have done nothing and in some cases either sold or traded in the MH. BEWARE!

Thank you! It was. 2004 Fleetwood Revolution WTHR refrigerator was a 1200

It sure has been devastating for sure! Yes there is was a settlement suit but you had to be involved by 2016. These people are only getting next to nothing, it’s ridiculous. We have had the RV since brand new and NEVER heard of a recall.

I do know one thing, I am sick of hearing these people commenting things THAT WE SHOULD HAVE DONE! they have no idea what type of people we are my husband is a perfectionist and our RV was like brand new still he treated it as if it was one of his collector cars. These people kill me. I would NEVER have put something on my refrigerator to “HELP IT” not burn down! TAKE THE PIECE OF CRAP OUT AND REPLACE WITH RESIDENTIAL TYPE” I just wish we knew to do that.

Sorry for the devastating loss.
And forgive me if my comment was inappropriate.
I was trying to suggest contacting the same law firm that won the norcold lawsuit.

I’m telling you there is going to be problems with MH’s that still have these units in them and the owners received a settlement for them but then left them in there and sold or traded them. Then you have the dealers reselling them to some new excited newbie that doesn’t know any better, but the dealers do. Fortunately I found out from a neighbor where I keep mine and I entered the Class Action and eventually bought the ARP unit until I replaced the whole thing which was before I got my first check. I know there wasn’t any stipulation for the owners to remove them if they were awarded a settlement and there lies the issue IMO?

We never received the recall notice and we bought the RV brand new so we are the original owners. I wish I could figure out how to post a pic on here so I can share my story with others who have a Norcold. GET RID OF IT! our investigator said that he sees an overwhelming amount of RV fires caused by these units and there is NOTHING to help make them safe as norcold says there is. Put a home unit in instead. We lost 9 vehicles, a boat, our RV, a Harley, 3 quarter midget race cars, And my hair salon due to this piece of crap that was in our RV.

Any info would be great from anyone that has experienced this as well. Thanks!
So sorry for your loss. We disconnected and capped off all the wires and turned our "nocold" into a pantry

"Sounds like you need to get an attorney involved."

Not the first step. Start with your insurance company first. Forget about talking to Nocold, they will deny everything.

Insurance company first and if that doesn't get things settled, then legal.

So sorry! Devastating to say the least...
It's both Norcold & Dometic, neither are safe. Bouncing down the highway eventually loosens components on the WHOLE RV & unfortunately with compressed ammonia gas & a heat source, the fridge becomes a hazard. Manufacturers just put a "recall band-aid" on these units, there will always be a risk. There are approximately 4,000 RV fires a year (its the #1 cause of RV loss) & refrigerators are the #2 cause. It can happen whether using propane or shore power. It's outrageous that more people will have to experience the devastation you & your family just endured through no fault of your own. The only way I found out about the "problem" was through someone who experienced a fire. First thing we took out after buying the coach. God bless & again, sooo very sorry!

We lost our Motorhome in April of last year. And like you we lost more than just our Motorhome. The Norcold fridge was the cause as determined by the insurance investigation.

Bouncing down the road is not the issue.

Yeah okay... Bouncing down the road loosens components/hoses, clamps, screws, everything on an RV is subject to things loosening. Leaks happen, safeguards fail, refrigerators go up in flames...

More proof of the crap that goes into most all RV’s. The industry is riddled with BS “quality brochures” and other “folksy hokey” lore detailing a families “commitment to quality” We are suckers to the lifestyle and thus agree to paying $326,884 for a vehicle with a 1 year warranty. My coworker just bought a KIA SUV... 10 year - 100,000 mile warranty...and free oil changes! Not bad for less than $26k.
