Onan 10 KW Generator control board plug burned
This story started in 2019. We were parked overnight without power. It was hot and the generator quit. I tried to restart. It sounded like the generator ran out of fuel. It ran for a few seconds and then quit. The next day we took it to a repair shop. The Technician said that the plug into the control board Wasn’t sending power to the fuel pump. They disconnected the plug cleaned and reconnected and the generator ran for a year and a half. We were Boondocking one day and the generator quit. I remembered what and where the technician had done the repair before I cleaned and added a little dialectic grease, and the generator ran for several months after that. This became the routine for the next four years. Clean, grease, run. Last November I took the coach to Cummins for generator maintenance and talked to them about replacing the one female pin in the plug that sent power to the fuel pump. They recommended replacing the full wiring harness (6 Grand). I broke the retaining clip on the plug so I asked Cummins to replace the plug and inspect/squeeze any loose pins, paying close attention to the pin that powers the fuel pump. They did and reported the offending pin was good to go. The generator ran for 2 hours then quit. Clean, grease, run for 9 months and everything worked as before. The last time the generator quit and would not start I found that the plug is burned. I think now I will need to change out all the pins or the entire wiring harness as well as the control unit.
Has anyone had a similar store? Has anyone replaced there wiring harness on the gen set?
Thanks for reading and responding to my generator story.
