Onan 5.5 bgm surging

Called up holiday world, asked them when I could bring my Rv In so thy could troubleshoot the generator. It was surging, overheating and hard to start if it would start offer shutting off at all. They quoted me 5-6 labor hrs to R&I the generator, more hrs to test and troubleshoot, etc etc and I soon saw this was gonna run over $2k easy so I was just contemplating gettin a new generator. Called Onan, they told me what I needed to do and what to look for, I ordered the parts and got it done in less than 4 hrs. Had the generator out in under 1 hr.
Got out the old trusty transmission jack

Adjusted the valves, were really loose .020, new plugs, fuel pump and filter, ran a can of sea foam through it, rerouted the gas line to prevent vapor lock because whoever the previous owner let work on it ran the fuel line through the middle of the engine crankcase. ran It on a load and cleaned & adjusted the carb per specs and a little by ear and feel, and it ran like a new genny! I'm proud of myself, just saved $2-4k. Ran it for 3 hrs full load and not even a hiccup.

Bam! Starts up alot mo betta and is quieter and smoother

It wasn't an easy job. Have a lot of mechanic background so the only thing to do is jump in head first. I was tempted to just buy one of the new quiet ones. I'm glad I pulled It out anyways, one of the valve covers just started leaking and all of the exhaust bolts were finger tight.

If I were to speculate, 5k hrs. Previous owner said the hour meter broke @1300 hrs, he said he probably had double on it. I know we probably put 2k hrs on it going to the coast, traveling, and especially cook offs. Been a good little genny. Several cook offs I have been to I wish it would lock up of something so we could get a new quiet one, this one just keeps on ticking.
