The upper fuel filter; the one connected to the carburetor; started to leak around the base plate crimp on the filter and the outer filter body casing. The gasoline was then dripping down and blowing onto the generator engine body.
The other fuel filter, connected to the fuel pump under the generator chassis, was not leaking.
This is a problem that Cummings/Onan is aware of. The information about this problem has not been widely disseminated by them either. Their solution is for you to replace the filter by the carburetor with a non-filter adapter that is the same length as the filter.
The adapters can be obtained on ebay and other sites for around $20.
I had to remove my air filter and filter housing to gain access to the side of the carburetor and the 90° elbow fitting. After cleaning all of the parts/connections apply thread lock (medium or super strength) to the threads before re-installing the elbow and the adapter.

Thanks for posting this. Sounds like a dangerous situation with the dripping gas on a hot engine.

Olbartender thank you for posting this. Mine just started leaking. Is there a part number or nomenclature god this adapter? Is this an Onan specific part? Thank you again.

The filter adapter replacement can be purchased online via Amazon, ebay or various other vendors; just google 'onan fuel filter adapter'. Some brick & mortar RV stores carry them but a lot of them don't know about the gas leak problem.
The Onan part # AØ26s253 (replaces part # AØ26e529).
Fairly easy fix, just use thread locker.
Why mine didn't catch fire and burn me and my motorhome up...don't know, but I have been thanking the good Lord a lot.

Thanks again. I noticed mine leaking when I went down to storage facility and started it up for its monthly exercise. Before I left, I walked around motorhome and saw gas on concrete. Opened gen compartment and could see where it was leaking from the filter to carb.
I really appreciate you posting this and it was extremely timely for me.

There were a lot of posts about this several years ago. They quit making that filter back then and new gennies started coming out with the new bigger around filter on the input to the fuel pump and the adapter on the carb.
I bought the new filter and adapter and made the switch at that time.
