Onan 5500 gas generator starter problem

The starter drive seems to be staying engaged after the generator starts ... doesn't happen every time but needs attention.
Does anyone have experience with this problem? I can't find an engine parts schematic to see where the starter is on the 5.5HGJAB-1038 so I don't know how to get at it but the generator is mounted in the front of my UFO rear gas chassis and looks like it has to be dropped out the bottom to access anything.
Your help is appreciated!

The solinoid engages and disengages the starter. If you replace one replace both.

I'm afraid you'd have to drop it out to get at the starter to replace. If you could get some oil on the starter shaft pinion, that may help until you get the starter replaced.

Dropped the generator out the bottom with the help of a motorcycle lift and a lot of lumber! Not a job for every DIYer! Had to lift the front of the coach all the way on the jacks to get the generator under the front facia.
Turns out the starter and drive are just fine, works great when you clean off the oil and dirt flung onto the pinion and shaft by the flywheel, maybe? Anyway, seems that the crankshaft seal is leaking - low oil level in engine and oil (and dirt) present below the starter on the bottom pan. Going to pull the engine off the base to clean up the mess later this week.
It was suggested by a service manager at the nearest Onan dealer that I could try an oil additive to snug up the seal. Anyone had positive experience with a product doing this? Product suggestions, please. (This is a Subaru/Robin V-twin, vertical crankshaft engine)

Well it wouldn't hurt to try it, but it's still a temp fix. I would be inclined to do it all correctly right now while you have it out of the coach.

I R&R'd my Generac once, I wouldn't want to do it again.

Where are the spark plugs located? I have the same setup and can't see the plugs. I hope I don't have to drop the generator just to change the plugs. If you haven't already replaced the 2 fuel filters, now would be a good time to do it. The upper filter (at the carb) is prone to leaking, that is why I just replaced mine.

Fuel filter new style #149-2341-01 located at the fuel pump

4) Adapter, Fuel Line

*(1) - #A026E529
*permanently replaces the upper fuel filter
