Onan 5500 Geni problems

Hi there. I had posted on here a while back asking about my issue with my geni turning off when it got hot. I had did everything everyone had said and it didn't fix the problem. So this last camping trip my geni stopped working completely for no reason. I go out to it and find that fuel is coming out of the carb when i prime the pump. So I took it all part cleaned it. It was pretty dirty. Put it back together and it still did the same thing. So I m doing this for the better part of the day trying to figure out what is going on. So on my last attempt of trying to fix this thing I notice a air bubble inside my float. I ask myself why would they put liquid in the float. So I call my friend and ask him if he's ever heard of this and he said no. So after some time I come to find a hair line crack on my float. I squeeze it just right gas comes out of it. Has anyone ever heard or seen this? Im gonna see if i can get something close from the auto parts store. I wonder if this is what was causing my issue this whole time. Maybe the heat was affecting the float in the heat and making it heavier or something. Kinda of a odd one and thought I would share it with anyone else that might be having issues. Check and see if there is some gas inside your float.

Having helped my father in his small engine repair shop, I've seen sunk floats. It happens.

I've also seen them sunk, on gas tank senders.

Also happens to vehicles with carberators. Course now everything is fuel injected. Any engine with a carb can have it happen.

This was new to me. Never seen it before and had me stumped for a bit. But now since all this happened now i need to get new plugs since I'm sure they are all fouled up since it wont start now. Oh well I'm sure it was due since its close to 200 hrs on the gen. But thought I would share this with others that are having issues. They might be having the same problem. I was about to buy a new carb. Saved my self a couple hundred dollars.

I think you found the problem.... While your in there, change the oil, filter, air filter, and check the brushes and slip ring. You should be good for 250 to 500 hours, easily.

Well i put new plugs and put the carb back on and now it wont start. It kind of stays on then once i let go off the start button everything shuts down. Don't know why this would be going on when it ran fine before this other issue. Never fails fix one thing another arises. I have oil and filter but didn't want to waste my time doing it if it wont start. Feel like selling this pos now.

Make sure the oil is full, full on the dip stick. Low oil can shut them down.

Make sure the solenoid on the bottom of the carb is getting power. It stops fuel flow thru the main jet.

Check solenoid its going up and down. I got a code 32. Im starting to think my belt blew or the coupler. Don't understand how taking out a carb and putting it back in can cause so much trouble.

Well , I'd have to think the float didn't sink right after the last time you ran it, so something else may have caused it to stop.

You say it runs until you let up the start switch. Download the trouble shooting guide and go from there.

I found out it has a broken belt. So guess what I'm gonna be doing this coming week. Just my luck fix one thing another happens. Must of broke when I was trying to start it after trying to blow out my carb before I took it to off.
