Onan 5500 Marquis Gold - Fault Code 27

My Onan is presenting the fault code 27. The top 20a circuit breaker on the unit doesn't trip however there is a problem with that leg. With the generator running if I turn the 20a rear air conditioner breaker on the generator dies. It works fine on the 30a side.

The lengthy list of possible suspects in this fault include the mention of Inverter/Converter. Coincidentally, I have a new converter on the way as my old one was not working properly.

Before I start the process of following the lead from that 20a generator breaker in search of a ground or something is it possible that my converter can play a role in this problem?

Thanks

Turn off the breaker to your converter or unplug it if your is set up so that you can do either.

Then see what happens when you start the generator and start loading it.

That was a great idea thanks....sadly no change. As soon as I turn the rear AC 20a breaker on in the coach service panel the generator dies. At least the converter has been eliminated.

Next check:

With all power off, disconnect (likely wire nut) the positive wire in your A/C ceiling unit.

If the breaker still pops, you have a short before the A/C unit.

Assume you have been on the roof and checked the electrical connections inside the A/C.

Lastly, does that A/C run on shore power?

1. The 20a breaker on the generator never trips, it just dies when that AC CB is turned on in the service panel.

2. The rear AC 20a breaker in the house service panel shows zero voltage when I meter it, all other CB's show the 120v when the generator is on.

3. The shore power I'm using is only a 15a from the house so it only powers the bottom half of my service panel so I can't check the rear one which is on the top half....which does include the front AC which is working, thank God as it's been very warm here.

Too bad I don't have access to a 30a or > shore power connection or at least a portable generator larger than my Honda 2k so I could test that rear AC.
