I was on my second shakedown camp with my new coach when I decided to test out the dry camping capabilities and systems. I have started my generator at least ten times prior to this time. I pushed the remote start button inside held it down and the inside lights blinked and then came right back and the generator would not start. I then disconnected external power and the remote starter button nor the start button the unit itself seemed to have any power to it. I then reconnected external power and went outside to the unit and attempted to start again. The red light was pulsating indicating preparation to start then it just went kinda "bump" and would not start, once again the lights on the inside blinked. Any ideas? The tech I spoke to on the phone indicated that the starter bendix may be lodged, but it does not seem that way to me. thanks

Higgins, welcome to iRV2.com. We are glad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. It sounds like you may not have the batery disconnect turned on and have lights working of the charger only. If the batteries are on then you could have a loose connection causing the generator to not start and pull the lights down too. Make sure you have good connections not only on the + side of things but also good grounds and well charged battery bank. You can also use the Aux. start switch to tie all battery banks together when they get drained from usage while dry camping.
I have put in a short cut to the New Members Check In section of the forum so others can welcome you to our webiste as well. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Higgins;

Welcome to IRV2. Congratulations on your new Winnebago Destination. You have found the friendliest site on the Internet I believe. Post often and keep us advised on your travel experiences. The Winnebago Industries Owner's Forum is a great place to ask questions specific to Winnebago. Should you want some Winnebago Karma please ask.

Don

Check water in batteries and loose connections. The blinking light on the starter button is throwing out a code,read it and go from there.

One of the things I was concerned about when mine was new was how long it took the generator to start if I hadn't started it in awhile. The first time this happened I thought "uh oh, the generator is busted" but I kept my finger on the button and it finally started.

Somebody told me that this is normal. I don't know, but it happens every time I haven't started it in awhile. Could your problem be as simple as that?

edit: ooops, disregard, I re-read your post and see that the the remote buttons are not getting any power at all when the shore power is disconnected so what's happening to me is not the same as your problem. Sorry about that.

Well a friend and I spent about two hours at the coach. We were able to determine that there is no power reaching the generator from the rear batteries, so that is why it will not start. We checked every fuse and breaker and found nothing astray. Somewhere between the batteries and the generator something has occurred which has cut the power to the generator starter. We could not find the answer. Guess it is heading to the shop.
