Onan 8000 stops on it own!!!

How can this be....my Onan 8000 will run for about 5 minutes and then stops. I have checked Oil, Water (reservoir and radiator cap under the bolt on cover} all is good.
Why does it just "SHUT DOWN AFTER A FEW MINUTES ?????"
I plan on dry camping soon...can't go without working Generator.

Is it throwing any codes with the light blinking on the generator. Do you have more than a quarter tank of fuel?

Thanks Ranger. Have 3\4 tank of fuel. Was serviced about a year ago with filters, air and fuel. Will run for about 2 hrs in the a.m...rest of day shuts off after about 5 minutes.
Code I look at codes but all sounds greek if it says Code 23...what am I to do. Manuel says contact Onan service center. I nee to fix it myself for now. Inverter flashes "Error" code on the panel. No error code when plugged into 50amp.
Thanks again...please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

It is my understanding that there has been a problem with a sensor in that gen. that creates the situation that you are experiencing. It was addressed when I had ours (Quiet Diesel 8000)serviced. I am sure there are people more knowledgeable than me that can help you out. Good luck!

The same thing happened to us while traveling thru texas last month. we needed to run both roof airs because of the heat. when I turned on the generator, it would die after 20-30 seconds. I had the onan manual and followed the code sequence. the primary codes were 3 blinks in quick series. the secondary codes indicated a low fuel issue. the fix indicated to hold the on off button in the off position for 30 to 60 seconds, to prime the generator, then start the generator. I followed their instructions and it worked. I then remembered that i ran the fuel tank to below a quarter of a tank on the previous fill. not sure if that is what caused the issue, but i was able to get it working. Bob

Same with ours and the code wasn't in the book. Faulty fuel pump. A known issue with these gensets.

Thanks for your help and ideas. My Gen is about 10 years old with 1200 hrs. You can't see inside with the sound deadening panels. The reason it would shut down after about 5 minutes.
FAN BELT!!!!SHOT.

I heard the fan belt is difficult to get to! I bought one to put on but only carry it as a spare.
