onan emerald plus 4000

This onan had been starting and running. a couple weeks ago I tried starting, it turn over and would start up, then die (gas tank full, batteries new) after several try's it would not turn over, I could hear the solenoid working it seems, but not engaging the starter, kind of as if the motor was locked. When starting button is pressed, can hear a slight humming sound, any suggestions please? thanks

Sounds like a bad frame ground for the generator. Find the ground cable attached to the generator frame. Take it apart, make sure there is a good tight connection. Next and most important part, go to the other end where it is attached to the RV frame. Take it apart and clean all rust and corrosion off the cable and frame. Get a small tube of dilectric grease to put on the connection. This should do it, if not, this is something you want to do every two years anyway. Lets us know how it goes.

Cleaned all connections, battery all the way to onan, positive and negative cables, even the bolts and screws, lol, still no good, I guess the starter may be the cause, not sure. But I believe I have done all I know to do since I'm no generator man. thanks for the help Clyon51, we tried, that's all I can ask.

Sorry that didn't work. It is the first thing to check for cranking problems and it doesn't cost a dime. It could certainly be the starter or the starter solenoid. The solenoid would be a cheap and easier fix.

You mentioned it would start and run, but then quit before this problem. This would indicate a possible bad fuel filter or fuel pump. I hope you don't have multiple problems happening at once. Good luck!
