Onan Gen won't crank

I have a 7.5 Onan gen that will not crank when i push the start button at all three locations. The fuel pump will kick on n run but when the starter is suppose to engage it will not do anything. I can short it out at the starter n it will crank but still wont start with the start button pushed in or not. I would appriciate any feedback. It is Diesel. Thanks Bobby

First thing I'd check is the starting solenoid. When you say you shorted it out, it's not clear if you're applying power to the solenoid coil, or jumping with a starting cable around the solenoid.

Then, check any fuses on the unit. Mine only has one, but if it's blown, it won't turn over.

Onan diesel genset has a delay built-in. You hold the start button in, the glow plugs pre-heat the chamber, and only after this happens does the starter engage. To me, this means several things can cause your situation, including said blown fuse.

Smile Gen Set Won't start

Look at the reset first. So easy to over look this starter step.
