That resister has a value of about 10k ohms. you can put a meter on it and if it reads open that is the problem. You could also jumper it with a wire and see if it runs. All the resister is doing is dropping the voltage to save wear and tear on the points. Also you should know that there is nothing special about the resister that they ask anywhere from $20 to $50 for. Check your PM for a copy of the manual I will be sending.
