Onan QD8000 HDKAK Overheat code 33

My generator quit yesterday with a coolant overheat code. It had been running for an hour+ powering A/C. My wife smelled something that she thought smelled like burnt rubber. This makes me think that a belt may be the culprit. It will restart and runs fine for a while before shutting down with a coolant overheat code.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has replaced a belt on the Onan HDKAK. Belt part number? Alternate supplier parts? Issues associated with access / replacement. It will be a couple days until we get to a location where I can work on it.

My generator is on slide rails that appears to give good access to all sides.

I think you have to get the back off that model to change belts - you do on my HDKAK 7500.

Make sure nothing is caught in the air intake, which is on the underside at the front, adjacent to the air filter. I've heard of plastic bags or whatnot getting caught and blocking air flow.

Have you checked the coolant level?

Thanks for the reply. From what little I know I beleive that the 7500 and 8000 are virtually identical beasts. I have checked the coolant and air intake. We arrived yesterday at our daughters farm where we put in an RV site a couple of years ago and will have time and space to work on it while we are here for the next month or so.

If you have replaced a belt where did you get the replacement? Onan website likes to recommend "authorized" repair centers for just about anything.

Regards, Al
