Bigger wires never hurt. The longer the run the larger the gauge needs to be. I put in a 1500 watt pure sine wave inverter and although the cables were only 5 feet used 0 gauge wire. Wasn't very expensive either, $40, custom made at a neighborhood car stereo installer.

Ditto on the Melitta cone. We use one both at home and on the road. All you need is a teapot or pan to heat water in - no electro-mechanical parts to fail, cheap to buy, clean up is quick and easy, and lasts for many, many years. Worst that can happen is you drop the carafe and shatter the internal glass thermos. The thermos keeps the coffee hot almost all day without burning or evaporating it away. We like 100% Colombian coffee, and can make a 24oz mug full for well under $0.50, depending on whether the coffee is on sale or not ........

Coffee Pot

Coleman makes a drip coffee maker that sits on a propane stove. Haven't tried it yet but it looks like a good way to make coffee if no 120 available. Not sure I'd use it driving but at campsites boon docking with quiet hours, it looks promising:

If it's a simple coffee maker it should be OK. If it has digital display, it may require more than 1200 watts to start. If your inverter allows momentary surge for startup, it will work. If your inverter can't handle more than 1000, the startup wattage of the coffee maker may exceed that. Only way to know is to try but if it's digital I wouldn't bother.

inverter

I run a inverter charger on my boat and would only suggest not use the clamps
and some portable inverters come with bolt on wires and that is what I would do.
But if just trying out the clamps check the wires for hot if they are getting real hot be careful things don't start melting.
also don't run the batteries down too low bad for batteries to go below 50% too many times and just check the batteries and I also have 4-6 volt but coffee maker will eat up a lot of battery and will take time for solar to charge with full sun and make sure batteries are full when making coffee.
