Question on Current Limit for Victron Multiplus Inverter

Hi all,

I'm still a bit new at trying to understand how the electrical system on these rigs work. I have a 30 amp rig, and we have a Victron multiplus inverter. When I'm using my generator or plugging into 30 Amp shore power, I keep the current limit on my Multiplus set to 30. If I'm plugging into my house outlet, I set the limit to 15. We just arrived at a campsite that only has a 50 amp outlet. I do have a 50/30 amp adapter, but am wondering what I should set the current limit to if plugging into a 50 Amp outlet. Since our rig is 30 amp, should I make sure to keep the current limit at 30 amp and not exceed that? Or do I want to match the output from the outlet I'm plugging in to, and set the current limit to 50?

I really appreciate your help!

Since your rig is 30 amp set it to 30. You never want to exceed the rating of the wiring and circuit breaker in your rig. Personally I would not set to 30 amp. You should not exceed 80% of your breaker rating.

Ok, thanks so much! So, you would recommend not setting the current limit above 24 for a 30 amp rig?

Pulling a full 30 amps for a short time won't hurt a thing. The 80% rule was put in place for continuous loads which are loads that "continue" for 3 hours or more without interruption/cycling.

Victron is smart enough to lower down your limit to the 80%. Since you have a 30a cable you need to limit to 30a so you don't overload the cable.

You could upgrade that cable to 50a and at least get 50a/120v into the inverter. Even if the rest of the coach is 30a you could use 30a plus have that extra 20a to charge the batteries
