Range sounds like jet engine!

I have a 1996 Dutch Star with a Wedgewood/Atwood 3 burner range. The oven pilot lights fine and the burner sets off after a short time and functions properly.

Upon reaching the set temperature, the stove starts making a loud jet sound in the air chamber area. It kind of pops on and off and the burner remains on through this event.

If I open the door and allow the inside of the oven to cool down, the burner functions normally. It starts doing the same thing a short time later after I close the door and the temp rises back up.

Seems to start this when desired temp is reached instead of shutting off. If I leave door closed it gets to a point where the sound goes on continuously.

Thanks for any help, Weja

1996. It needs cleaning and adjustment of air shutter.

The burner must be removed from the oven. It must be made clean. All the many holes must be clear and there must be no loose rust or cobwebs inside. The air shutter is held in place with a small sheet metal screw. Loosen the screw and reinstall burner. Set shutter for 3/4 opening. Lite oven burner and set to high. If flame tips are not yellow shut burner off and tighten screw. That should do it!
