Refer troubleshooting challenge

Up for a challenge?

Here is a problem I believe is resolved but thought making a game of it might be fun. The more we learn about these darn refers the better. Our refer is a Dometic side by side with water and ice in the door. Installed in a slide in an 08 HR Endeavor.
I will give you some information that is not relevant and leave out one clue that is.
Care to play along?
Past problems with ice maker. Discovered it is very important to flip the lever up the night before travel so it will not slosh water and freeze up things. Has caused water to come out the back of the freezer ice maker water inlet in the past.
Had error code Call13. Defrost heating element failed. Replaced that.
Had temps in refer and freezer go up about ten degrees. Replaced snap thermistor so rear fans would come back on.
Had intermittent issue when on propane. Took orifice off end of propane tube and cleaned it. While doing that decided it would be a quick test to just turn the refer on and then off with the orifice off. NOT A GOOD IDEA FOR THE LAUNDRY LADDIE.
These are past issues over 5 years.

Now, leaving one little subtle clue out here is what recently happened.
Outside air temps went from 80 to almost 100,
Refer fans working fine and I added two more in the past so no lack of ventilation..
Refer temp running 33-34 which is normal for my setting.
Issue: Freezer temps up to 15.

WAG - A. Water to ice maker / door is off. Ice maker bail is down. Defroster for ice maker runs anyway. Temp rises. And of corse - D. No Idea.

Sounds familiar

My freezer usually runs -18F.

BUT: when the ice maker starts up or cycles it introduces a fair quantity of warm water, very warm if the back of the refer is in the sun. Of course that's going to cause the freezer to get warmer.

On our 4 door we purposefully put things that aren't so picky about temprature on the ice maker side. Bread, cookies etc. Ice cream always goes on the right!

When there is a breeze blowing against the refer side of the coach I've noticed a rise in temp too. Probably because it messes up the normal convection flow. Usually it's not a problem. But if it coincides with ice making and a defrost cycle...... ???

Learned new things already. Didn't think about a runaway ice maker defroster.
Not the issue in this case. On occasion I have had to "prime" the ice maker by spooning water into the mold.
Currently the ice maker has some small ice but it had not dumped and is not working.

May not be working due to high freezer temp. Even though the readout showed 15 the ice maker may not be cold enough to cycle.
---------------------------------

The freezer is still going down in temp now. Hopefully the ice maker will kick in too.
I have learned to "fix the obvious" first and often other issues resolve themselves. The obvious in this case is the freezer temp not being low enough.

Still cooling down?

How long has the refer been powered on? It usually takes 24 to 48 hours for the thing to cool down and stabilize.

Priming? Clogged water line? Low water pressure? Low water pressure? Check your water filter(s) if you got them.

Door seals?

Plenty Bad Mojo?

Ok, not my first rodeo. Refer been running for the last 7 months. We are full timers now.
No issues with water flow.
Freezer has hit 6 degrees and I noticed the ice maker arm position has moved so it will be making ice again soon.

I will add this clue.

Ice dispenser is not turning. It is not frozen because I took it out and can turn by hand.

Just to revisit. Current issue was 15 degrees in freezer and 33 in refer. Ice maker was not dumping or making ice.

Problem is resolved but posted for the challenge and knowledge.

Solve the high freezer temp problem and the ice maker issue is resolved too.

Good one Richard. Don't think I wasn't tempted. We really like this refer and most of the failures have just been annoyances. When things are living on an earthquake things break. Having the Propane option is nice when stuck in a 30 amp rv park.

Learning to turn the ice maker off when under way is a self inflicted wound. The problem I have you thinking of was also a self inflicted wound but with multiple symptoms.

I had the ice maker working when it wanted to problem with my Norcold also. I replaced it with a Lowe's generic for a Whirpool and the problem hasn't been back in 5 years.

Ok, forget about the ice maker. That is not the complaint. Just a symptom.

The complaint is the Freezer at 15 and the refer at 33.

Keep thinking and read the manual if you have one.

In High School my Electronics/Science teacher told me to "read the book", "if it doesn't work, follow it".
