Refrigerator Defrost Drain

I need some suggestions on how to run the defrost drain hose on my Dometic RM2852. Moho info in my signature. A previous owner removed the original fridge and put in a small Norcold that didn’t have a drain hose. I just put in the Dometic RM2852 with a new 12v compressor cooling unit that has a defrost drain hose. When I took the old one out there was no sign of a way to run the hose. I called Tiffin and after some clarification of the issue I was told they used to run the hose thru the vents in the exterior fridge access panel.

Not only does this look bad, but the water is running down the side of my moho. I have the clear hose sticking out about an inch. I know I can extend the hose when I’m stationary and remove it when I’m on the move, but that’s just one more thing to do. Anybody got any suggestions for a more permanent solution?

Thanks Old Biscuit! I can always count on great info from you! I think I will give the drip cup a try. The compressor gets pretty warm and it may be enough to move the evaporation process along.

If the bay below it is accessible, could you drill a hole and run the drain hose out the bottom of the coach? That's how ours is routed - straight down the outside wall behind the fridge, through a small hole in the floor, tacked along the corner of the bay, and out the bottom through a small hole in the bay floor.

An angle is cut in the end of the hose with the short side facing the rear to aid in drainage while moving.

One thing that I did learn is how important it is to keep the drain tube running as straight vertically as possible with slow gentle curves if any are needed to get around an obstacle. We had our stop draining once and the problem was a too-tight bend in the routing (not kinked, just too tight of a curve). Doesn't take much to reduce the flow.

mine terminates right above the vent holes so you cant see it and it drips out the vent, it also has some kind of screen plug to keep insects out (and clogging it)

Thanks for the response Richard5933. What you suggested was what I was thinking would be a good way to do it. Under my fridge is the breaker/fuse panel. Below that is a basement compartment. I suspect there is a way to get it down thru there. I think I’m going to try the Norcold drip pan that OldBiscuit mentioned first. It would be the easiest and I do have some room to work with. I’ll be stationary for the next several days so I can keep an eye on it. If it doesn’t “pan” out, I will explore what you suggested.

I also extended my drain through and out under the basement compartment.

Every now and then I wonder what that water is under there, on the ground, then I remember the drain.
