Our Dometic refrigerator has worked great for 6 years. We just moved from Wyoming to AZ for the winter, and it has developed an odor when the door is opened. We thoroughly cleaned it, put charcoal filter, and coffee grounds to no avail. We even flushed out the condensate drainage tube. Any ideas?

One of the best and cheapest methods of removing odors from RV friges is to stuff it full of newspapers. If you
re certain that the odor is not coming from a refrigerant leak try stuffing newspapers in the crispers and areas where you are not storing food.

Jerry, as Tom has mentioned about the cooling unit leaking; is the odor an ammonia spell? If so your cooling unit has sprung a leak and will quit cooling shortly if not already in the fresh food section. IF it is another odor you can clean it up. Let us know which and we can go from there.

Thanks for the information. The smell is not an ammonia smell. It is only in the fresh food section, not in the freezer, nor from underneath or behind the refrigerator. Someone suggested using vanilla as an odor absorper--we are trying that now.

GLad to hear that it is not the dreaded ammonia smell . If you can kill the bacteria then the smell will subside. Good luck.
