These fridges take a long time to get cold, a day or 2. Leave it on elec and check it again tomorrow to see if it's cold. It's not like a res fridge that turns on and the fan immediately starts blowing cold air. It's an absorption unit and has no fan to circulate cold air, so it takes awhile and it very quiet.
Also, on mine, when the gas has been off for a while(or ran out and had to refill) it usually wont start on gas the first try. I usually have to turn it back off, wait a min and try again. I've had to try to start on gas as many as 5 times before it actual lit off and stayed lit. Have had this same situation with furnace after the gas runs out(had to purge the air out of the lines).

Hey thanks for the rely, but I have alread carred it to camping world for them to straighten out a few things like open the door and the steps go in. closed the door and they come out and that kind stuff. They told me my refrig. something was busted and to replace it would be about as much as buying a new one. So I went to another camping place where my freind used to work the guy there said he had a used norcold alittle bit smaller about i/2 inch and about about 1/2 on the side but he could bring it down to the shop plug it up and show me it runs on gas and electric for 650/.00 no write up ticket . Is that a good buy? What all should I ask? Bc

Normally when you hear the sound you describe, the cooling unit is shot. Some one probably operated the reefer for an extended time out of level. You could get an Amish cooling unit and rebuild your reefer or just replace it with a newer unit. When the reefer in my Shasta went belly up I went to an RV salvage yard near me and got a used NorCold to replace my old Dometic for less than a new cooling unit would have cost and the newer unit was a 1995 unit with a Ice Maker in place of the original 1983 Reefer. I did have to modify my cabinet to make the new unit fit as it was taller than the old unit. It still works great. Good Luck, Ed

I replaced the cooling unit in our Dometic unit with an Amish cooling unit. Works as well or better than the OEM cooling unit and has a 5 yr warrranty too. A little more expensive but I don't need to worry about ammonia leaks and fires now.

I found a used one for 650.00 norcold I also found one that was 24" deep at home depot that would fit in there for a 150.00 that had a dent on the outside witch did not hurt the inside.
