Remove a Dometic Penguin, but keep the furnace?
Hello - I have a 2011 BornFree 27RSB with a Penguin 13.5k AC unit and a propane furnace both using the older style 5 button Dometic thermostat.
I'm going to be swapping the AC out for a minisplit. My plan is to replace the original rooftop AC with a vent to give me some additional room for Solar panels up top. I wanted to keep the propane furnace. In reading up on things tonight though it seems like the furnace is actually controlled by the AC - Is that correct? Any idea how to do away with the AC and keep the furnace?

Welcome to iRV2 
Yes the control goes from the thermostat to the roof A/C control board and then to the furnace.
Details in the " Files " drop box ; heating and cooling section ; Dou Therm CCC , pdf.
You could remove the control board from the roof A/C and insulate it and lay it in the roof trusses .

Perfect, Thank you. I'm glad I thought to dig into that before I pulled the unit off the roof. Heaven forbid they just run standard "normally open" residential thermostat wiring to each component

It’s to keep you from running the ac and the furnace at the same time. And without it you will screw up once in awhile.

That would be too " Old School " everything has to have a control board and/or a computer and a remote control to sell these days .
