Replace or repair ice maker in Norcold, 2003 Fleetwood Providence?

We own a lovely 2003 Fleetwood Providence with the double door Norcold refrigerator. In the spring, there was a recall for the refrigerator and General RV in Wixom, Michigan, took care of it. However, our ice make has since started leaking water inside of the freezer and causing the ice to build up outside of the container. The husband looked it over, thinking that it was just inadvertently disconnected. Not the case. We're thinking it has to be replaced. Where do we find the replacement reasonably? This forum has been invaluable for replacment information!!!

You can price repair parts , but many have found ; myself included; that a portable ice maker is 1/3 to 1/2 the cost, and removing the built-in gives extra freezer space.
Another reason behind my decision. I don't always trust , park water to make my ice with, and the portables will make ice in 6>8mins. They don't keep ice , so the cubes have to be Zip-locked and put in the freezer , but take up way less space than the built-in.

I'm not sure they can be repaired. Replacement would be my preference. I would locate the part no. and Google it to find some pricing. Try ebay as well.

You can also purchase the exact replacement from lowes. I also have an issue and looked at the whirlpool replacement and it it exact down to the wire harness and screws. The cost at lowes is $49. I am still pondering if I want ice maker in the freezer or purchase An external one which work flawlessly.

We've never used ours after the first night when it dumped a load of ice in the middle of the night and scared the heck out of us.

It is an easy replacement. The Norcold 1200 takes a Whirlpool universal ice maker kit, Model ECKMF94. I got one at Lowes for $49. It was an exact replacement including the electrical connector. The kit comes with wiring loom, water valve/solenoid, water tubing, and ice tray (too wide)...none of which I used.

You might try defrosting the freezer first. Driving with the ice maker on can slosh water and fill the tray up and then water just starts to make a mess of things. My wife puts pans of hot water inside. You can leave the refer closed.

Even if you have an auto defrost system ice can build up and cause issues.

I went through that a few years ago. Bought mine off the internet for $39.95, without those extras; then shipping was $12_, wish I'd known about Lowes having them.

There are 2 things I know of that can cause the ice maker to leak inside the freezer. One is too much water getting in either because of leaky solenoid valve of a mis-timed solenoid. If it used to work OK and you haven't changed anything, it probably isn't mis-timed. Replacing the solenoid is the likely solution.

The second thing is the release coating in the ice mold is failing. The coating delaminates in big pieces and wicks water out of the mold. If the coating is failing, replacing the ice maker is your only option. Get the Whirlpool model from Lowe's for around $50.

Hi all

I have a Norcold 1200 in my coach. Seems to make ice ok but when it has dumped and you hear the pump going to fill the ice tray with water It seems to put to much water in and the tray overflows a little. hence i get a build up of ice on the bottom of the freezer. Can the amount of water that is pumped in be reduced some how?

Page 62 of the Norcold 1200 Service Manual tells you how to adjust the water fill to the ice maker. You have to remove the ice maker from the freezer because the adjusting screw is under the plastic cover to the left of the unit as it sits in the freezer, and you can't get the cover off while it's in there.
