Replacement Gas Strut is Weak

I just bought a 13 year old motorhome, and in two cases so far, the gas struts have leaked and needed replacement. When I installed the replacement units, however, they didn't have nearly as much pressure as the originals, and didn't really fully do the job.

In the later case, the original strut was SPD-GSNI-5150-20. This was produced by a company called "Service Plus Distributors". I replaced it with what appeared to be the replacement on Amazon, JR Products GSNI-5150-20.

Has anybody else had this issue?

Gas struts are available with "force ratings" from 10 to 250 lbs.
Me thinks you ordered struts without enough force.
All of mine are rated at 60 lbs ...(but yours yours may be different).

X2

Are you positive that's a 20 on that part?
My 31C has 90# struts, four of which I had to replace a few months ago.

I am certain that the original struts and the replacements were rated for the same force (20 lbs in this case). I did a test using a scale, and confirmed that the new struts did in fact put out 20 lbs of force. One of the old ones seemed to put out closer to 30 lbs. Hmmm. Anyway, I will probably see if they make a -30 in that size and try that.

My motorhome has a lot of struts in it, used for various things. The struts I used for example in my posting are used to lift up the rear "grill" on my diesel pusher.

Some of my original equipment 60 lb. compartment door struts deteriorated to only 25-30 lbs in 16 years.

All the outside compartment doors (8 or 9?) on my 31C class C, have one on each end - all 90#ers. I don't think that 20# strut is strong enough, or it's a bad strut ?
