Yep. Understood. But I do realize that there can be consequences with increasing the size and weight of tires on any vehicle.

And, while I am definitely NOT one for conforming to the "rules," it's nice to know what they are.

If the engine can take the upgrade, but the transmission cannot handle the additional power, it isn't going to last long.

There is always a down side. Usually the down side is engine/transmission longevity... If you're flush with money, then the down side may not be a big deal.

If you aren't, I'd put some serious thought into it before doing it.

Newer/better isn't always better -- tech tidbit/example of the day...
Some Xerox printers (digital presses technically) were/are sometimes able to change print speed in a similar manner by a controller firmware update and a payment to Xerox - lets say from 45 to 65 pages a second. Some tolerate it well, others immediately fan-fold all paper in the paper path... There is nothing like playing hide and go seek with a ream worth of paper - it only takes 1/16" to cause you to go all through the press trying to clean it out all over again. I cringe just thinking of this "upgrade"
[Mod Edit] Programming engines has been around for a long time. If there is so many bad things about programming, how do they stay in business? I have used programmers on engines for many many years, I have never had a problem. They boost your power and you get better fuel milage. More power does not always equal more fuel. My corvette 525 hp stock gets around 29 miles per gallon. The power to weigh ratio allows the engine to not have to work down the road resulting in better fuel economy. Now if that same corvette had a 300hp engine it would , more than likely get worst fuel milage because the engine would have to work harder. I have a newmar king aire 4593, 600hp.when pulling my 30' stacker my milage is around 4 mpg . Programmed with PDI tuner it is 6.2.
Get a programmer and feel the power and relax.
