Residential Fridge vs RV Fridge
Thought I read a thread on Residential Frige vs RV Frige a week or so back.
Looked back and can't find now. Anyone else remember reading it?

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
There have been a ton of discussions on here about that. Just go to the green "Powered by Google" search box at the top right and do a search for it. You will be busy for a while! Noticed that you are kinda new on IRV2 and wanted to say hello! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Depending on what forum it was in, probably to nope on reading it, but then the dozen or so threads about RV fridges vs residential fridges in the last week all seem to run together.

Do you know of a way to get search results in any sort of date order? Whenever I try to use it, the results are in random date order, and the OP is looking for a recent discussion.

I'll take a bold step and summarize. If replacing a non working refrigerator a household fridge is generally less expensive and cools better in most conditions. but of course requires 110 volt electricity exclusively to operate. Not a big deal if you have an inverter and sufficient battery bank or doing elec hookups every night. You might have to do some serious surgery on the cabinet to get it to fit. Some folks have had to remove a window or windshield to get the fridge in.
The standard gas absorption fridges have some inherent advantages and disadvantages. Advantage being they will run off of propane and electric and will cool just fine if installed correctly (many are not installed correctly by the RV manufacturer). Some can struggle on the hottest days to maintain frozen foods. Big disadvantage is they are not fool proof. Fools will park them on slopes and the result can lead to overheating and fires and other dramatic events of biblical proportions. You can buy a device ($150 +) that will shut down the fridge if it overheats and restarts it when the danger has passed.
I was going to replace mine but decided to keep and improve my gas fridge after having to boondock in my driveway after Hurricane Florence for 7 days when electricity was out and gasoline was in short supply. I installed the monitoring device with a supplemental cooling fan and brought the install clearances and venting up to the fridge's factory specs. <$200.

Lol They shouldn't have trouble finding a current thread, as it comes up at least once a week. Most get quite passionate. Hard ice cream usually comes up in the discussion.

Dometic Fridge
I have a problem with my dometic Fridge when I first turn it on it will work and get cold but once it is cold it will switch off and the check light will come on. These happens with propane and plugged in. Once I leave it off for a bit and it cold down and I turn it back on it will do the same thing any ideas

Missing from most conversations about this is talk about 12v compressor fridges. Work well and more efficient than residential (no loss due to the inverter necessary for residential.) None of the fire risk common to propane units.
Cost more, but if dry camping is the goal, these things help greatly. We've got a Vitifrigo because there weren't many options when we installed, but there are more out there now and the cost is starting to come down.

You are going to have to explain what you mean about the "loss due to the inverter". The inverter has its own automatic transfer switch and when on shore power/generator/solar power passes power directly through the ATS. Power consumption with "no load" (not inverting) in a searching mode is less than 8 watts.
On a charger/inverter like an MS2812 you could turn off the inverter function but that would seem totally unnecessary.
